Cabo de Santa Maria

Praia de Atalanta is a beach on the north coast of the island of Boa Vista in Cape Verde. It is approximately 6‚ km northeast of the island capital of Sal Rei and 3‚ km west of Vig­a, its length is 10‚ km. The wreck of the Spanish cargo ship Cabo Santa Maria, which ran aground on September 1, 1968, is located here.‚ The Cabo de Santa Maria, an island point is also located there.

The beach forms a part of Boa Esperan§a Nature Reserve (Reserva natural de Boa Esperan§a) which includes other beaches of Sobrado and Copinha.

The Spanish ship was first built in 1957 at Bazan, Spain by Empresa Nacional. Its gross tonnage was 4,972 tons.
