singapore

Though physically small, Singapore is an economic giant. It has been Southeast Asia's most modern city for over a century. The city blends Malay, Chinese, Arab, Indian and English cultures and religions. Its unique ethnic tapestry affords visitors a wide array of sightseeing and culinary opportunities from which to choose.

  • Singapore is one of only three surviving city-states in the world because we don’t have a capital. The other two are Monaco and Vatican City.
  • Singapore is made up of one large island and over 63 small islands, mostly uninhabited, surrounding islands.
  • The island-country is formally known as the Republic of Singapore, while common nicknames for the Singaporean capital are Little Red Dot, the Lion City and Garden City (for its many parks and tree-lined streets).
  • Singapore along with Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan are called the ‘Four Asian Tigers’.
  • Singapore has the biggest Yakult bottles in Southeast Asia, and the most expensive.
